Rattleware 57-Milimeter Round-Handled Tamper, Long

Better Espressos!!!

This tamper works much better than the little plastic one that came with the espresso machine (In my case, a Kitchenaid Pro-Line Espresso built by Gagglia). I can produce tighter and more consistent pucks of coffee, resulting stronger espressos with richer crema. The tamper is highly recommendable because of its good looks with its clean lines, smooth profile, and bicolor with the stainless steel bottom and hard rubber too. Second, because of its heft and rubbber hand, the tamper is easier to use than the original little plastic tamper. Finally, the tamper is easier to clean, being bright stainless versus the former’s dark plastic with many corners. Well worth the expense.

Works great, looks great

Very nicely made. Feels like a single chunk of steel. I like the feel of the handle/grip as well. The depth of the flat bottom relative to where the tapering to the handles starts makes a nice way to check the depth of your tamp.

It’s made out of a very soft metal though, and it will scratch. Don’t worry too much about this, as it’s only coffee grounds you are dealing with.

You’ll never go back to plastic

I had been making do with the standard plastic tamper that came with my Rancilio Espresso maker for several years when my son sent me a stainless steel tamper as a birthday present. I noticed a huge improvement in the tamp immediately, but that 54mm tamper was actually a little undersized for the Rancilio basket. The 57mm Rattleware tamper proved to be the perfect fit. As well, the broad round handle nestles in the palm a bit more comfortably than the other tamper, and the thickness of the business end provides the perfect gauge – when the top edge of the tamper is even with the top of the basket, I know the amount of coffee being compressed will produce the optimal amount of crema.
